How 918 Pickleball Started: A Family, a Sport, and a Vision for Thailand
When people ask how 918 Pickleball (Nine-Eighteen) started, the truth is there wasn't any grand business plan behind it. My wife and I simply fell in love with pickleball.

Like a lot of players, we started out just looking for a fun way to stay active. Before long we found ourselves arranging our schedules around games, meeting new friends on the courts, and spending far more time talking about paddles than either of us expected.

From Hawaii to Bangkok
At the end of 2024, my wife's sister came to visit us in Hawaii from Bangkok. We introduced her to pickleball, and before long she was hooked too. That visit sparked a lot of conversations about how quickly the sport was growing around the world and how much opportunity there was to help grow awareness and participation in Thailand.

That simple idea eventually became 918 Pickleball.

Building the Right Lineup
In the beginning, we reached out to several paddle companies hoping to build partnerships. Plenty said no, which is just part of starting something new. Rather than rushing to fill shelves with whatever we could get, we spent a significant amount of time researching the market, talking with players of all skill levels, speaking directly with paddle companies, and testing as many paddles as we could get our hands on.

Through that process, we developed a much clearer vision of the products we wanted to bring to Thailand. We wanted a lineup that offered genuine quality, variety, and value for the local pickleball community.

Fortunately, Bread & Butter and Spartus believed in what we were trying to do and were willing to work with us from day one. Their support gave us the opportunity to introduce players to great paddles that we genuinely believed in because we had spent so much time testing them ourselves.

As our relationships grew and the pickleball community continued to expand, other respected brands such as Friday, Selkirk, and Bodhi joined the 918 lineup. Each addition was chosen based on player feedback, product performance, and how well the brand fit our vision. Together, these partnerships allowed us to build a diverse lineup that could serve everyone from first-time players to seasoned competitors, while helping grow the sport in Thailand with equipment we were proud to stand behind.

The Community Behind the Name
While finding the right brands and products was important, the relationships we built along the way ended up being even more meaningful. The pickleball community has been incredibly welcoming, supportive, and generous. Some of our closest friendships today started because someone invited us into a game or struck up a conversation after a match.

Where the Name Came From
A lot of people also ask where the name 918 Pickleball came from. Funny enough, before we ever planned on selling paddles, we were exploring the idea of building a court facility. After playing at plenty of courts where the spacing was too tight, we became a little obsessed with creating a better playing environment. We kept coming back to what we felt was a minimum footprint of roughly 9 meters by 18 meters. The numbers stuck, and eventually the name did too.

Paddles We're Excited About
Of course, running a paddle shop means we spend a lot of time testing gear. While there's no such thing as a perfect paddle for everyone, these are a few from the 918 lineup that we've been especially excited about lately:

The Friday Aura — A true all-rounder with a comfortable, forgiving feel. Great touch, a large sweet spot, and enough pop to suit a wide range of playing styles.
The Friday Aura Pro — Fast, lively, and surprisingly balanced for a power paddle. Delivers easy pace and spin while maintaining a dependable feel on resets and counters.
The SLK ERA Power — Designed to put pressure on opponents. Explosive drives and heavy spin are backed by a stable face that keeps mishits playable.
